During each month of the Jubilee Year, the Church celebrates numerous groups of laypeople and religious. Armed forces, police, and security officials are being honored in February alongside artists and deacons.

National Eucharistic Revival Pilgrimage
The National Eucharistic Revival Pilgrimage will be making its way through the Archdiocese of Dubuque May 23-27, beginning with a Eucharistic procession from the banks of the Mississippi to the Cathedral of St. Raphael! Save the date! Details are coming soon!

Statement of Archbishop Thomas Zinkula on the Appointment of the Eighth Bishop of Sioux City
February 12, 2025
With great joy, we embrace today’s news of the appointment of a new shepherd for the Diocese of Sioux City, Rev. John E. Keehner, Jr., a priest of the Diocese of Youngstown (Ohio).
We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Bishop R. Walker Nickless for his 19 years of dedicated leadership, collaboration and service. Bishop-elect Keehner is the answer to the diocesan prayer for a bishop of "sound body, mind and spirit” to “lead the Diocese of Sioux City anew.”
As a proud Iowa native, I can confidently affirm that Bishop-elect Keehner will be met with a community of clergy and laity that is welcoming and steadfast in faith.
And as the metropolitan archbishop of the Province of Dubuque [State of Iowa], it is a pleasure to welcome Father John to the Hawkeye State as he joins Bishop Dennis Walsh of Davenport as yet another esteemed spiritual father from the Buckeye State! May the prayers of the Iowa faithful assist Bishop-elect Keehner in his new ministry and continue supporting Bishop Nickless in his retirement.

Bishop-elect introduced to diocese
After nearly three years of waiting, the Diocese of Sioux City announced at a Feb. 12 press conference at Central Catholic Offices in Sioux City that Pope Francis had selected a priest to serve as the eighth bishop of the diocese and succeed Bishop Walker Nickless.
Bishop Nickless, who has served the diocese since 2006, announced Father John E. Keehner of the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio would be his successor and bishop-elect for the Diocese of Sioux City. The bishop-elect is currently pastor of four parishes in Ashtabula County, Ohio.

Archdiocesan Earth Day Poster Contest
"You Have the Power to Care for the Earth"
As a way to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, the Archdiocese of Dubuque is facilitating a poster contest for children ages K-Grade 3! Help your children to appreciate the beauty of God's creation and the importance of Church teaching on caring for the earth by participating in the contest. Posters will be judged on artistic merit, relation to the theme ("You Have the Power to Care for the Earth"), originality, and neatness. Prizes will be awarded in each of two categories (K-Grade 1, and Grades 2-3). The contest will open on March 1, 2025. Submissions are due by April 4. Contest rules and additional information will be made available on March 1, and can be found on the Archdiocesan "Care for Creation" webpage HERE.
EPIC Youth Event
EPIC - Saturday, March 29, 6:00 - 9:00 PM
This is a great opportunity for your teens to meet others like them from all over eastern Iowa, hear a nationally-known musician (Connor Flanagan), and grow deeper in their faith. Cost will be $25 per person and will include a pizza supper! This is a great event for youth groups, follow-up for recently Confirmed teens, or teens attending NCYC in November.

Iowa Catholic Youth Conference
ICYC (middle school event) will take place on Sunday, March 30 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Registration is now open! Cost is $50 per person until March 1.
